ANNUAL EVENTS SPONSORED BY SONS OF ITALY - Shasta Lodge #2453:
COMMUNITY CATERED EVENTS OR PRIVATE PARTIES -- Throughout the Year
We are available to cater parties such as anniversaries, birthdays, retirement dinners, office parties, or any other reason you may wish to have the Sons of Italy prepare a meal for your celebration.
CRAB FEED -- January 16 and 17, 2015
Our Crab Feed is an annual two-night event that features antipasto, delicious clam chowder, salad, sourdough bread, and ALL the crab you can eat. We have many wonderful baskets and gift certificates, which you have an opportunity to win and a great Grand Prize at the end of the evening. This is one of our biggest fundraisers and tickets are sold quickly. Check with a member if you are interested in attending.
ANNIVERSARY DINNER -- February 22, 2014
This is a dinner dance celebrating the inception of Shasta Lodge February 23, 1980. It is an evening featuring Italian cuisine served to members and guests with a local band playing for your listening and dancing pleasure. The Lodge's Most Honored Member of the Year is announced.
ST. PATRICK'S DINNER -- March 15, 2014
This seems like an unlikely Italian event, but we "fill the Lodge" when we cook our famous corned beef and cabbage with all of the trimmings. Along with dinner, we also feature some local talent such as Starship Enterprise or Kids Unlimited. This event is also open to the public.
WELCOME HOME VIETNAM VETERANS DAY – March 29, 2014
This event at the Redding Veterans Memorial Hall at 1605 Yuba Street is dedicated to Vietnam veterans. The day starts with a procession to the Igo Veterans Cemetery to honor those who have passed away followed by music, lunch, and displays (including a Huey helicopter). The Sons of Italy, Shasta Lodge #2453, has provided lunch since the inception of this project. We serve a pasta main dish with salad and bread. It is our honor to partner with Vietnam Veterans of America—Chapter #357 to make this a memorable day for veterans and their families. The public is invited to attend free of charge. The picture below is a prototype of the monument to be built at the Igo Veterans Cemetery in Northern California.
GOLF TOURNAMENT -- May 31, 2014
The Golf Tournament is for men and women, members and guests, who want to enjoy a day of 18-hole golf and a lunch served by Sons of Italy afterwards. You can sign up as a team or singles and the organizers will pair you with other players that are available.
PAESANO DAYS -- Cancelled for 2014
What began as an Italian picnic has become a two and a half day event to continue our culture and heritage, featuring a three-day bocce ball tournament. This is a popular event held at Anderson River Park for the families in our community. This is a nice way to spend a hot summer night by the cool Sacramento River. We have served as many as 1,400 pasta dinners Friday night and lots of meatballs, sausage, salad, and ice cream, and cannolis on Saturday. Dancing is available Friday night and kids games on Saturday. This year we will have a fun walk/run on the beautiful river trail. If you are interested in participating, click on the Fun Run Application and send before August 1. Many crafters set up for the weekend selling their wares. We also feature many baskets, gift certificates, and a Grand Prize that you have an opportunity to win. This is one of our biggest fundraisers and fun for the whole family.
WINGS OF ANGELS DINNER -- October 25, 2014
Sons of Italy and Wings of Angels have partnered together to sponsor a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the benefit of terminally ill children and their families. This is a very worthwhile project with all proceeds benefiting the Wings of Angels. We encourage community support for this dinner.
CRAFT FAIR -- Not an Annual Event
This is a Craft Fair featuring local crafters with items such as woodworking, jewelry, clothing, linens, ceramics, jellies and preserves. Other available goods would be metal and iron. The fair is all day Saturday and Sunday with setup on Friday. Food, prepared by Sons of Italy, is available for purchase throughout the weekend. You can start your Holiday shopping during this fun event.
MEMORIAL DINNER -- November 15, 2014
This dinner is to pay respects to our brothers and sisters that are deceased. Our Officers and Council Members thank Lodge members and guests that have worked hard all year to make our events successful by preparing a turkey and ham dinner for them. All donations are used to support our three $1,000 scholarships that we give each year.
CHILDREN'S CHRISTMAS PARTY -- December 13, 2014
Members are encouraged to bring their children and grandchildren for a day of crafts, games, lunch, and a visit from Santa Claus. There are activities for different age groups and lots of supervision.
WINE TASTING -- Not an Annual Event
This event has featured local vintners and a cheese manufacturer for your tasting pleasure. It is an excellent opportunity to become familiar with North State wines. We provide dinners or substantial hors d'oeuvres for you to consume while you listen to Italian music and socialize with your friends.
